- Arise two hours before your work day begins each morning. Read 30-60 minutes in your field. Read something educational, motivational, or inspirational, but best of all read something in your field to help you be better at your current job. Read 50 books per year. This alone will increase your income 1000% over the next 10 years.
- Re-write and review your major goals before you start off your day. Rewrite your 10 goals. This re-programs them into your subconscious mind. It gives you clarity of what you want to accomplish. If you do this everyday, this alone will increase your income by 10 times in 10 years.
- Plan every day in advance. Make a list the night before. This will add 25% to your productivity the very first day! This alone will increase your income by 10 times in 10 years.
- Set priorities on tasks and concentrate on the most valuable use of your time all day long. This is the greatest of all success principles. This alone will increase your income 10 fold in 10 years.
- Listen to audio programs in your car. These programs get programmed into your subconscious mind. This alone will increase your income 10 times in 10 years.
- Ask the two magic questions after every experience. (a) What did I do right? On a sales call, presentation, or staff meeting. (b) What would I do differently next time? Write down all the ways you could improve your performance. The answers are both positive. This programs positive actions into the subconscious mind.
- Treat every person you meet like a million dollar customer. Beginning with your family and extending out from there. Every person considers themselves the most important person in the world. They will then treat you with the same respect.
Principles of Success
Have you ever wanted to change, and you were committed to making a change, but you didn't do it? Why does that happen?
I believe it boils down to our mindset. It has been said that eighty percent of success in anything is psychology, and only 20 percent is mechanics. Sometimes our psychology is not in sync with our goals.
There are five keys to succeeding at the highest level that will help you make a sustainable and long lasting change.
- Raise your standards. Change your "shoulds" into "musts". I should lose weight is much different than I must lose weight. I should make more money versus I must make more money. You get the idea. When you feel that you absolutely must get something done, you will find a way. This one change will change your life.
- Change your beliefs. Sometimes we have fears and doubts that cause us to sabotage ourselves. These can cause us to pull back and fail to act at crucial times. If you find yourself feeling this way there is one reason: You have inner conflicts. Unless you uncover these inner conflicts, you will fail to achieve any goal you have set for yourself.
- Replicate strategies that work. Success leaves clues. There's always a strategy to help you achieve what you want in a shorter period of time. Model someone who's already achieving what you want. Successful people aren't lucky. They've got a set of strategies that they apply and they work. Don't reinvent the wheel. It's always best to learn from others. That's how you compress decades into days.
- Intensify your emotions. Life can smack you in the face. Whether it be an illness, a business setback, or a problem within your family. These are critical moments that, if faced directly, will give you the muscle of life. Find a way to simply look at your problems as a gift from God and use it to your advantage.
- Be willing to give more than you receive. What shapes the meaning of our lives is not what we get, but what we give. If you can make it your goal to add more value to people's lives, then you'll never have to worry about success. The secret to living is giving.
ConAgra - Over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday Benchmark Construction put in a mezzanine for the potato plant in Twin Falls. 2.2 million pounds of potatoes run through that plant on a daily basis. We were given 12 days to finish the project and we finished it in nine days (working 24 hour shifts) thanks to the dedication of Boise Metal Works, Axelson Concrete, Keith Randall and Larry Doser. The good people at ConAgra were pleasantly surprised at our performance. At Benchmark, we pride ourselves on professionalism, value, and finishing our jobs ahead of schedule.
Design/Build article in Idaho Business Review - On December 15th Benchmark was featured in an article on design/build construction. We were the first call made by the publication due to the expansive design/build portfolio of Benchmark in the Treasure Valley. With over 68 projects done since 2000 they felt we were the most experienced design/build firm in the area. The article pointed out that the design/build method is growing quickly and believes it will be the method of choice for the majority of owners in the years ahead. Benchmark is well positioned for this growth trend.
