Benchmark Construction, Inc. began in residential construction in 1948 as Keys Construction Co. in Caldwell, Idaho. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Keys Construction began the transition from a respected residential building contractor to a light commercial building and industrial general contractor. Burt Brennan and Larry Doser, who were long time employees of Keys Construction, purchased the company in 1986. The company was moved from Caldwell to Nampa in 1992. At the same time, the name of the company was changed to Benchmark Construction, Inc. In late 1995 Burt Brennan became the sole owner of the company. Early in 2002 Clayn Sonderegger purchased a part interest in Benchmark Construction and completed the buyout in September 2004. At the time of Clayn's buyout Terry Christensen joined the Benchmark as a full partner.

Under Burt's leadership, the company expanded its market and continued to increase its reputation as one of the leading general building contractors in southwestern Idaho. Since that time, Benchmark Construction continues to be involved in numerous contruction projects such as office buildings, commercial warehouses, school buildings, retail stores and various industrial design build projects. Each year Benchmark Construction is involved in construction management projects ranging from small additions of existing buildings (2,000 sf.) to constructing large new corporate facilities (100,000 sf.). With the addition of Clayn, Benchmark Construction maintains an Idaho licensed project construction manager on staff that provides over a decade of design build construction management experience to Benchmark's clients.
