The Great Depression
Did you know that in the Great Depression one third of the people were desperate, deprived, and unemployed, one third were at normal financial levels leading comfortable lives... and the other one third were actually prospering?
We rarely hear about the folks who were actually prospering during these difficult economic times. I find it fascinating that one third of the people during that era actually found opportunities to thrive. What lessons can we learn to help us succeed in the challenging times we are facing today? Here are five to chew on:
- Maintain a positive mental attitude. This is the top priority of success. Your commitment to a positive mental attitude will put you on an unstoppable path. Positive thoughts bring about prosperity. It's a daily commitment. Whole books have been written on the subject and I would suggest you read about the subject daily. Early morning is best. Listen to self improvement CD's in your car instead of listening to the radio. Feed your mind and your success will follow.
- Believe in yourself. Limited beliefs bring out limited results. If you don't think you can do it, who will? You control the most important tool in your success: your mind. It's self-fulfilling prosperity. It was stated beautifully in the best selling book Think and Grow Rich, "What the mind can believe and conceive, it can achieve."
- Don't worry, be happy. More than 255 studies show that money doesn't buy happiness. Studies show it is the other way around: Happiness attracts money. Happy people are more fulfilled, relaxed, and peaceful, even in this recession. They naturally have greater opportunities, better health, deeper friendships, more success, and so on. Their happiness is NOT because they get all of the riches. Rather, they're naturally happier and, as a result, the riches come. They enjoy higher wages, greater relationships, career advancements, loyal customers, greater opportunities, and contentment at home. Isn't that the best way to live life? Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out to someone who needs a friend. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness naturally follows.
- Deliver more than you are getting paid to do. The victory of success will be half won when you learn the secret of putting out more than is expected in everything you do. Make yourself so valuable in your business that you will become indispensable to your clients. Exercise your privilege to go the extra mile, and enjoy all the rewards you receive. You deserve them.
- Remember that there is opportunity in every difficulty. I heard a speaker recently say that tens of thousands of the millionaires of 2012 will be made from the opportunities of 2009. We will look back on this time and think, "Remember when they were practically giving property away in 2009? I wish I would have invested back then. I would be a millionaire today." The same will be said about the lows (opportunities) of the stock market, commodities, building costs, and businesses that are at record low levels.
Hopefully these insights will help brighten your outlook and help you become one of the prosperous ones. It is my hope that we can ALL prosper in these difficult times. If we implement these along with other principles of success we will not only be happier, but also wealthier.
